Arts Award takes children and young people on a creative journey, exploring the arts world, discovering their potential as artists, developing leadership skills – and gaining a recognised qualification along the way. At Wills's Whims, we are facilitators in the Visual Arts, for anyone aged 11-16 years. This unique set of arts qualifications builds skills essential for success in the 21st century: Creativity and communication, along with problem-solving, reflective-thinking and confidence.
Ages 11-14 years
Wills's Whims will be running this Award for both students in Mainstream Schools (across the Summer Holidays in 2026), and on Friday mornings during term-time for Home Educated Students. This Nationally Recognised Level 1 Qualification, helps young people develop their artistic abilities alongside their research and communication skills.
The content is student led - so they can do what they love, and be rewarded for it! It involves them in the arts as creators and audience members, and encourages them to take their first steps towards leadership by sharing their learning with others. They will complete a portfolio as their Arts Award journey progresses, explaining what they've seen, done and learned along the way.
There is no exam - typically, it works out as 40 hours in the studio, and 20 independent learning hours to complete.
Suggested Age 14-16 years
The Silver Award is available to Home Educated Students on Friday afternoons during term-time at the WW Studio.
This Award is a fantastic alternative to traditional GCSEs and is a Nationally Recognized Qualification in the Arts (in a similar way to the Duke of Edinburgh Award).
Students lead their own creative journey, focusing both on artistic practice and arts leadership. Completing both elements successfully requires teamwork and independence, creativity and critical thinking, leadership and collaboration, confidence and communication.
Depending on the student, it will take approximately 1 year to achieve.
